What is coaching?

Coaching is a partnership between a coach and client. It is a thought-provoking and creative process that works to inspire you to maximize your personal and professional potential. The process of coaching has the potential to tap into previously underutilized sources of imagination, productivity, strengths and leadership.

Coaching at McLean, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, defines coaching as "an interpersonal process that helps people achieve positive change and growth. By harnessing innate strengths, uncovering intrinsic motivations, and asking empowering questions, coaching fosters self-generated insight, vision, and goal clarity."

Coaching helps you identify goals as well as challenges to be overcome. If you're stuck, it can help you get unstuck. Coaching has the ability to help you transform your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.

What's the difference between counseling and coaching?

Counseling is analytical and diagnostic, seeking to alleviate symptoms that are causing distress. Often, it does this through an exploration of the past and the bearing that past has upon the present. Counseling is frequently covered by health insurance.

Coaching, on the other hand, is more collaborative in nature and focuses on the present. The client determines the focus of coaching. The coach facilitates the client's movement forward through careful questioning that helps the client tap into inner strengths. Coaching is not covered by health insurance.

Who's my ideal client?

You are open to exploration and to thinking about things in new and different ways. You may feel stuck in your present situation and may be struggling to feel hopeful. You recognize that your old ways are not serving you well in your desire for a healthy and joyful life. You understand that there's no magic pill that will give you what you desire and you're willing to take responsibility for how your life unfolds.

What will I provide for you?

I will listen attentively and without judgment and will partner with you wherever you find yourself in your journey. I will ask provocative questions to help you tap into your inner resources and help you discover your purpose and define your goals. I may use questionnaires, exercises and evidence-based assessments to drive our conversations forward and keep them focused. I will respect the fact that you are the best authority on you and I will hold you accountable (in the way that you choose) to follow through on commitments you make to yourself.

What are your fees?

Fees are individualized and determined after a scope of coaching has been determined. Initial consultation is no obligation, no cost.
